bar ends that roll along on the ground, suck.

*inspired by the anonymous blog 'flatland sucks'.

Here's my rant:

Roller type bar ends sucks. Bizhouse has marketed them, along with plenty of other DIY types on the internet and in person. I think they suck.
I think using them sucks.
I think manufacturing them and selling them sucks.

People that constantly drag their bars on hitch hikers and wear out bar ends and bars are buying these instead of investing the time to simply learn the trick right.
The fact that a market exists,  fooling people into thinking they are doing the trick correctly while dragging their bike along the ground makes me mad.
It goes against everything I value in flatland, and pisses me off...probably more than it should. :)

I'd also like to mention that it took me forever to learn hikers; and trust me, I bought a lot of bar ends. Each time I bought a set, I swore they would last me longer than the last pair did. My goal was to always not touch.

I do admit to hating the fact that when I was learning, I wanted them too. I never did get them, but I have gotten decent at hikers. I touch sometimes, I crash, I have bad moments, but I also have moments now when my bars never come close to the ground. It can be like that for anyone that invests time over money and parts.

I do understand the learning curve, and that people learn at different speeds, but let those worn out bar ends motivate you to LEARN THE TRICK, not buy the equivalent of training wheels for your handlebars. Rolling a hiker with your bars on the ground for 30 feet is not flatland, and although it may give some initial satisfaction, I really believe that it will slow, rather than speed up, progress on the trick.

To everyone who reads this, only be offended if it applies to you; and if it does, please put your focus on keeping the bars off the ground! Best of luck!
peace.

  1. hah. well said. One thing that may be necessary is to make a hiphop video where the mc's all roll around through the city doin Hikers with roller barends, swerving and cutting each other off. There could even be some shots of hot ladies taking their turn. Give em like a day to practice and get the technique down. The video would take off like that cookin dance thing. Maybe then some sense of shame will visit upon those who decide they want to truly excel in the flat game.
